Nature pilgrimages involve a purposeful walk, in meditation and prayer, to a carefully selected destination in nature. Similar to the Christian tradition of pilgrimages to holy sites to pray, we make pilgrimages to the river, mountaintop, or forest.
During the pilgrimage we may sing hymns related to our destination and intention, and offer moments of rest for participants to pray and give thanks. Pilgrims are encouraged to walk barefoot in silent meditation, however each participant can make the journey in the way they see fit. The events are family-friendly and small groups are welcome to hang back and chat, giving space to those who prefer to walk in quiet contemplation.
See one of our nature pilgrimage destinations below, along Bear Creek near Morrison.
We encourage participants in the nature pilgrimages to bring an offering of flowers, a stone, or other special objects from nature that they can leave in thanks when we reach our destination.
We invite you to join us for a Release Ritual at the River – Little Park in Idledale on Saturday, September 1, 2018.
If you have a group of 3 or more people and would like help organizing a dedicated pilgrimage with a purpose unique to your group, please contact Elizabeth.
