The first energy of nature within the element of earth can be found in the dry or decomposing earth. There is little water here, and not much life.

This quality of earth is associated with death and decomposition, which in turn fertilizes the earth to make way for new life. It also relates to illness and physical suffering, and the many challenges of life on earth.

The archetype associated with this energy of nature is that of the old wise man who has lived a difficult life and suffered greatly, and as a result holds a profound and limitless sense of compassion for all living things.

This energy of nature represents the old making way for the new, a transformation that can in time lead to flourishing life. We refer to this Orixá as Obaluaê or Omulu.
